Lancaster, PA (Spring 2006) – T. Morton & Co. Custom Wood Flooring is proud to show some recent work. These are some floors that have found permanent homes:
Country House, Charlottesville, Virginia
What was important to this American antique collecting couple?…a fantastic space to showcase their furniture. T. Morton worked with their designer to create the ultimate platform in a weekend retreat south of Washington, DC. European White Oak, darkened with a Wenge Wipe, this very special floor itself is a collectible…truly a piece of art. The 7-1/2" wide planks in 7-1/2' lengths were unique even in the 1600s. Early American but with a unique twist is what this particular couple imagine, and exactly what they got.
New Canaan, Connecticut Residence
An art collector needed a space transformed into a home gallery of sorts. As the den became a gallery…the expansive room with floor to ceiling windows magically became the most wonderful spot in the home to display a vast modern art collection. The story goes…the designer answered with an array of Jatoba. Also known as Brazilian Cherry, this clean, simple floor with subtle variegations makes for the perfect art display. Oddly enough, some of the statues showcased in the gallery also originated from far off corners of Brazil.
Beach House, Bay Head, New Jersey
Beach houses have become more and more elegant. Classic Bay Head beaches are reminiscent of a time long ago when people left the city in droves to vacation at cottages and bungalows. This custom kitchen, designed to integrate with an existing 1940s space, features a solid White Washed Walnut, 5" wide, random-length T. Morton custom floor. The width and species match the adjoining dining room floor, original to the home. The White Washed color gives the new space a fresh, casual appeal. The surface of the floor is hand scraped for a more relaxed look. It is beachy, but with impeccable style and taste…just what this family needed for their home away from home.
Cottage in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania
Rustic charm is the general theme behind another classic T. Morton find…for a client that just moved into the historical district and wanted to capture the authenticity of Civil War days. American Cherry hardwood with a Natural Wipe seemed to be the perfect choice. Random length, 5" wide planks have a 30 gloss urethane finish in the living room to give a classic look of a very typical Northern home of the time.
Turn of the 20th Century, Mainline, Pennsylvania
T. Morton worked closely with a well known area designer to enhance the existing architectural elements of a Classic Mainline home, built in the early 1900’s. The designer chose White Oak with a Walnut Wipe, giving the floor a warm antique cocoa hue. Most likely used as a country house for an affluent Center City Philadelphia family, the current homeowners treat it as their permanent residence. They worked with both T. Morton and their designer to choose flooring that was both durable and absolutely elegant. Beautiful, but unpretentious, was the feeling that the designer wanted to evoke, and with the perfect furniture and fireplace accents, the T. Morton wood floor accomplishes just that.
